What Is UGC Content? Types, Examples and Uses
UGC content is anything customers or everyday users make about a brand instead of the brand making it: reviews, unboxing videos, testimonials, how-to clips, photos and social posts. Brands reuse it on product pages, social feeds and ads because it reads like a real customer talking.

The main types of UGC content
Reviews and testimonials: a customer says what they think, in text, a photo or a short video.
Unboxings and product demos: someone opens the package or shows the product working. Shopify names testimonials, product demonstrations and unboxings as forms of UGC.
Tutorials: a 'how I use it' clip. Bazaarvoice says product reviews and tutorials are popular because UGC is meant to look authentic and unrehearsed.
Photos and social posts: tagged pictures and posts that show the product in real life, which Shopify also counts as UGC alongside reviews and video.

Organic UGC and paid UGC
Organic UGC is made by customers on their own, with no payment. Paid UGC is made by UGC creators whom a brand hires to film content in the same customer style and hand it over, as Hootsuite describes. Both are UGC content; the paid kind is the one brands can plan and run as ads.

Which type of UGC content fits which job
Product page: a review or testimonial clip near the buy button answers 'is it any good?'.
Paid social ad: a problem-and-solution or before-and-after clip with a hook in the first seconds.
